IGNOU launches new online programmes under “Padhe India Online” initiative

The world’s largest varsity Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has come up further with online programmes after launching MA in Hindi on 20th May 2020 which was inaugurated by Education Minister, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ under,  “Padhe India Online” initiative which gave encouragement to the online education culture amidst the world facing COVID-19 pandemic.

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has recently announced admissions for 10 new online programmes (https://iop.ignouonline.ac.in/) taking the total number to 13 on 1st June 2020. With this, the varsity has also added another 24 courses on the SWAYAM portal (https://swayam.gov.in/IGNOU) making the total number to 45 programmes.

The courses are on varied subjects such as; Agricultural, Sustainability Sciences, Library and Information Science, Sociology, Law, Tourism, Languages, Information Technology, Event Management And Visual Art etc.

Professor Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU while sharing the details of the new online programmes said that this is in continuation to the university’s efforts towards the MHRD’s “Bharat Padhe Online” initiative. Professor Rao thanked the HRD Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” who has been a staunch advocate of online education, reports, The Hindustan Times.

While sharing the details of the online education programs of IGNOU, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the university has always made use of technology to make higher education accessible to the masses. IGNOU has also been using the broadcast technology through the Gran Darshan TV Channel Network and the Gyan Vani FM Radio Channels.

The varsity Vice-Chancellor also gave information regarding programmes being offered by the different schools of IGNOU online along with appreciating the faculty members for making all this happen in such a short span of time.

IGNOU with this is serving as the national coordinator of Swayam for its Certificate and Diploma Courses. These programmes will be available on the e-Vidya Bharti (Tele Education) platforms for international students as well in addition.
