New Delhi: The Delhi University is considering dedicating its new Fatehpur Beri college after Sushma Swaraj, the city’s first female chief minister, authorities said on Saturday. The Academic Council and the University’s Executive Council will decide on the college’s name.
“Along with Swaraj, a few other names have been suggested. Swami Vivekananda and Veer Savarkar’s names are also being considered “a source confirmed.
According to DU Registrar Vikas Gupta, as part of the university’s centennial year, a facilitation center and a proposed college, the name of which has yet to be determined, will be established in Bhatti Kalan Gaon in Fatehpur Beri.
“The Academic Council and Executive Council of the university will decide on the college’s name. Former Chief Minister’s name is also being considered “he stated
Mr. Gupta said it is still up in the air whether the new college would be co-ed or women-only. According to an official, because it is a remote place, there may be fewer ladies interested.
The foundation stone for the facilitation center and proposed college was to be laid by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday on the 40-bigha land allotted to the university by the district administration, but the event has been postponed, and the next date will be announced separately, according to the university.
“The facilitation center will allow DU students residing in and around Bhatti Kalan to easily complete numerous processes, such as admission and test, without having to travel a significant distance,” Mr. Gupta added.
