To find hostels is challenging for DU students
Delhi University opens colleges only for the final year students of undergraduate and post-graduate courses. But finding hostels rooms are difficult for students in this Covid period. Once the 2021-22 year admission process gets complete then University will decide when and how to open colleges for new students.
Around 280,000 applications to DU Only 40% of students are from Delhi NCR .and the remaining are from across India. 12 colleges are offering female hostels and rest offer the only male hostels. Also for new students, DU provides hostels in the north campus. While University didn’t show any data of applications applied for hostels in admissions.
This year, several colleges with hostels others undergraduate students such as Hansraj College, Kirori Mal College, Indraprastha College, Lady Shri Ram College, and Miranda House said there have been deliberations on converting hostel rooms to single occupancy which would reduce the capacity of hostels. However, a final call will be taken once they receive guidelines for reopening from the university, the officials said.
Vibha Chauhan principal of kirori Mal College said we have 200 seats for a male hostel, it will be reduced when rooms are converted into single occupancy for students’ safety. We will wait for the admission process to end. Since this double occupancy will converted into Single because of social distancing. Some of the hostels rooms are still locked because luggage is there of third year students, she said.
