The Delhi University Students Union (DUSU), led by ABVP, has made a groundbreaking decision. They have announced that during Navratri, 10 female students will have the opportunity to serve as DUSU president, one female president for one day.
This initiative started on WOMEN’S DAY 2024 when the Delhi University Students Union announced an article writing competition on ‘The role of women in making Viksit Bharat.’ Around 5,000 female students participated, and out of them, 500 were shortlisted. The names of all 10 women for the 10 days were announced in the upcoming week. Three of the selected women are Akshita Johar from Ramjas College, Sophiya from Swami Shraddhanand College, and Anshita Chauhan from Daulat Ram College. The girls will receive a special gift and a certificate to thank them for their commendable service as DUSU president for one day.
“On each day of the Navratri, a woman will head the DUSU as its president exhibiting Narishakti. We have taken this initiative to boost women representation in students politics,these one-day DUSU presidents will have all the powers of the chair and will be allowed to take decisions concerning students while they hold the position.” Words of DUSU president Tushar Dedha while addressing the media.
Congress Mahila Morcha president Alka Lamba, BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, AICC secretary Amrita Dhawan, and Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak are some former women DUSU presidents.
This initiative is aimed at addressing the need for greater representation of women in student politics. It will inspire young girls to dream big and take on leadership roles. This is a significant step for Delhi University, indicating its ideologies and opinions on women’s empowerment. It’s a step forward for equality as, by recognizing the contributions of women in all spheres of life, Delhi University is building a supportive community that values diversity and promotes gender equality not only in the institute but all over the nation.
