things students should not expect from Delhi University

Delhi university excels in the overall curriculum. It’s world famous institute and being a student is a pride in itself. Expectations in students’ minds are normal to arise for such esteemed institutions. Although a few myths should be cleared in student’s minds before they enter Delhi University.

1. Infrastructure
Built around 50-100 years ago DU colleges have very old architecture. There are no fancy buildings and one has to spend college life in monument-like buildings.

2. Attendance
Getting into DU is exciting because of the campus fun but attendance is the issue. Du is very strict with respect to attendance. You cannot skip or bunk classes to have fun with friends. If you do not have required attendance then you won’t be allowed to sit in the exams.

3. Placements
Good placements in DU are just a myth. 15 LPA packages are very rare cases. Most colleges don’t offer placements in major courses. Du is more famous for graduation courses and thus not a very good trend is seen for placements.

4. Hostels
Though the colleges are amazing, most of the colleges lack hostel facilities which make it other states’ students difficult to find accommodation. Only a few colleges provide hostel facilities and those colleges have very few seats.

5. Outdated curriculum
Du does not promote practical knowledge. Most of the courses are graduate courses and so professional courses are not supported with practical knowledge.

6. Fun
If you’re expecting college to be fun all the time then be ready to be disappointed. DU is very clear with respect to studies and does not allow students to enjoy or ignore studies.

7. Good grades
Entering DU requires excessively good percentages but after entering DU students’ grades tend to decrease. Being a student of DU does not mean that students are very studious.

8. UPSC
Du does provide a good atmosphere for UPSC aspirants but major UPSC aspirants tend to deviate from their aim and become busy in extracurricular activities.

9. Budget friendly
Although DU is less expensive than other private colleges, students of other states face high expenses due to more than average rent of accommodations.

10. Creamy crowd
Cut-offs of DU are very high and that’s why everyone thinks that the fellow students must be of very impressive personality and there would be a creamy layer of students but the people in DU being among the toppers do not stand up to the expectations of freshers.
