Delhi University ‘s Rs 67.71 Crore Budget For WiFi Network In All Campuses

In a bid to enhance digital infrastructure and provide better connectivity to students and faculty, Delhi University has allocated a substantial budget of Rs 67.71 crore for the installation of WiFi networks across all its campuses and in upcoming girl’ s hostel in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar. This ambitious initiative aims to enhance and promote online learning, research, and administrative processes within one of India’s most prestigious educational institutions.

Source of Funds

The university has secured funding for its upcoming project through a loan amounting to Rs 938.33 crore acquired from the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) in October of the previous year. Specifically, a portion of this loan, totaling Rs 261.33 crore, has been allocated by HEFA to support the establishment of a robust WiFi network infrastructure and to kickstart the construction of a new building dedicated to the Faculty of Technology.

In 2022, Delhi University submitted an application for a HEFA loan to address its pressing infrastructural requirements and ambitious expansion initiatives. These endeavors encompassed the establishment of DU’s east Delhi campus in Surajmal Vihar, as well as the inauguration of a new college in Najafgarh, among other essential projects. Additionally, HEFA has greenlit proposals for five other ventures to receive financial backing through the loan mechanism.

Implementation of these projects will commence once the funds are duly sanctioned, marking a significant step towards enhancing the educational landscape and facilities across the designated institutions.
