Jesus and Mary College is situated in Chankyapuri falling into the south campus of
University of Delhi. Established in 1968, it is indubitably one of the most reputed
institutions for women in the country offering major disciplines in Commerce, English,
Mathematics, History, and Political science, Sociology, Psychology and Economics.
This institution is run by the Sisters of Jesus and Mary Congregation that originated in
France in 1818. It was founded by a noble lady St. Claudine Thevenet.
The college has been set up with the motive of imparting excellent quality of education
to aspiring young girls along with nourishing them as responsible, confident and
disciplined young women. Several societies have been running in the college which
includes fields such as dance, art, dramatics, quizzing, film appreciation, architecture
and compulsory societies like NSO, NSS, WSDC and AICUF. These provide students
the opportunities to fruitfully utilize their talents in numerous extra curricular activities.
The college boasts of a dedicated, cooperative and hard working faculty which whole
heartedly works towards inculcating a sense of knowledge and understanding among
the girls. It not focuses on the development of the overall personality of the students but
also making the, aware of their moral and social responsibilities.
Located in one of the well-built and secure areas of south Delhi, the college offers a
comfortable, safe and vibrant environment to the girls. At the entrance of the college,
there is a good sitting space where one can bask in the gleaming sunlight. It has well
maintained classrooms, halls and labs and has recently constructed a new building with
all well equipped facilities. There is a huge playing ground for young sports players and
beautifully trimmed lush green lawns.
The spacious and immaculate canteen offers a wide range of cuisine starting from
doasa, idli to burgers, pastas, chowmein, kulcha and many more tempting dishes.
The college stationery situated on the first floor maintains a well stocked collection of
students’ books and all sorts of stationery items
Spread across three floors, the library of Jesus and Mary college perhaps has one of
the finest collection of books all across the Delhi university where plethora of books are
available for students’ help.
There is a large multipurpose hall with a vast stage and a seating arrangement for over
500 people.
All around the year, the college keeps buzzing with a multitude of activities attracting
students and teachers from all across the University of Delhi.Whether, it is organizing of
competitions and fests or conducting talks, seminars and workshops, it witnesses a
mass participation by all and an enthusiastic response to each of its cultural and social
