Delhi University is considering the cancelation of semester exams and discussing direct promotions. Earlier, the University of Delhi postponed the May-June semester examination due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country. However, now the reports of DU to consider cancelation of semester exams started making rounds on the internet.
According to the source, Senior University officials during a video conference with DU Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Yogesh Tyagi, discussed various issues ranging from admissions to examinations. During the meeting, two proposals were made by the officials, first, declaration of summer vacation i.e. from April 15 to May 15 to start the next academic session on time and second, promotion of first-year and second-year students without conducting semester examinations.
The officials stated that conducting semester exams for first-year and second-year students will be a task as they are larger in number. The University can promote the students on the basis of promotions or on the basis of prior evaluations. Following these steps will help the authorities to conduct the examination for third-year students.
However, the proposal has not been accepted by the Vice-Chancellor of the University yet and so the official confirmation is awaited. Furthermore, the officials have also proposed to prepone summer vacations this year starting from April 15 to May 15, 2020, to curb the academic loss that occurred due to lockdown.
As for now, the University has postponed examinations (Theory and Practical) of the students of Regular Colleges, School of Open Learning, Non-Collegiate Women Education Board and Ex-Students. The circular was released on April 9, 2020. The fresh Date-Sheet for all the University Examinations shall be notified later on the official site of Delhi University.
