Shaheed Bhagat Singh College
Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, also known as SBSC, is nestled in the tony area of South Delhi.
Named after the valiant and legendry freedom fighter, Bhagat Singh, the college offers its
students an opportunity to excel in their passions and find their calling in life. The college came
into being in the year 1967 and was set up as a co-educational institute of higher learning under
the ambit of University of Delhi. It was conferred postgraduate status in 1976.
The college offers a number of courses across the academic streams though its Commerce
Department is considered first among equals. The college is also known for its exemplary
Political Science, English,History, Geography, Mathematics, Hindi and Economics
Department. All departments of the college arequite enthusiastic and keen in organizing
and participating in first class academic conferences. Some recent conferences and
seminars organized by the College; ‘Federalism and Governance in a Globalizing World’
by the Dept. of Political Science, India’s first M-UNEA by the Environment Society,
Harithkram and a National Workshop on ‘Monitoring and Modeling Socio-Economic
Impact of Land-Use, Land-Cover and Pollution’. Such democratic spaces allow the
college to develop and foster an intellectual understanding of world issues. The College
also has an active Placement Cell and it has helped a number of students get absorbed
in companies such as EY, KPMG, TCS, Genpact etc.
The college has excellent physical and IT infrastructure as well. Armed with a double
story library with computers for OPAC and nearly 70000 books, the college has also
made sure to subscribe to international and national journals (HBR, Economist etc.).
Apart from well-maintained green and lush lawns, numerous sporting arenas have
also been developed for Cricket, basketball and Lawn Tennis.
Shaheed Bhagat College also promotes gender sensitization through The Women
Development Cell (WDC), a platform where young minds can debate issues related
to gender equality and justice. It hasalso formed an Internal Complaints Committee
against Sexual Harassment of Women in the College.
This ensures a safe and conducive work and academic environment to students and
its employees. The College Magazine, Vani, also encourages students to get published
in both English and Hindi.
Shaheed Bhagat Singh College was also presented a ‘Good Practice Award’ in 2013
by University of Delhi for providing a vibrant atmosphere to its students and helping
them develop all aspects of their personality. The Culture Council is extremely active
and encouraging. It has helped foster and grow The Debating Society, The Music Society,
The Dramatics Club, The Dance and Choreography Group, The Literary and Fine Arts
Society and a Fashion Club. The College’s theatre society, Natuve, recently
performed a spectacular play, ‘Ulta Chor Kotwal Ko Daante’ which focused on the
growing menace of religious intolerance in the country.
The College enjoys a natural advantage in terms of accessibility as it is near Malviya
Nagar Metro Station and numerous bus-stops as well. It also has good connectivity
by road is lined by well paved streets. Niche mall spaces such as Select City Mall and
DLF Place are located nearby. Students can also hop over to the PVR Saket Complex
which is quite an economical and egalitarian public space. You can also get lip
smacking rolls just outside the college though the college canteen usually is
enough in its choice of delectable goodies.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, named after the great son of India, Shaheed-e-Azam,
Sardar Bhagat Singh who does not need any description. It was established as a
co-educational college in 1967 as a constituent college of University of Delhi.
The college is a part of the South Campus and is located at Sheikh Sarai Phase II. It
would take around 10 minnutes to reach Malviya Nagar metro station and CVS Bus
Stand is at 3 minutes of walking distance from college, means it is well connected.
The college provides Bachelor's degree in various courses and Master's degree in
commerce. It is one of the best college in south campus. The college was ranked at
number 17 for the best Commerce colleges in India in 2012 as per India Today Survey
group. University Express ranked it at number 5 among all the Delhi university colleges,
giving its faculty a full 10/10 score. The college is famous for its Commerce, Political
Science and English department.
The college has a fully computerised big library. Its collection is enriched with more
than 70,000 books on diverse fields of study and research. 70 journals (National as well
as International journals, viz. Harvard Business Review, Economist, etc.) in different
subject areas are also subscribed by the library. It has two courts which we usually call
English department for lower one and Hindi department for upper one.
The college has NCC, NSS, Drama society, Dance sociiety, Cultural society, Fine Arts
society and many more in which students can take part in and develop themselves.
The college posses such a nice canteen that is famous for its "Rajma Chawal', "Dosa",
"Chowmein", and ofcourse "Samosa" which is provided at very affordable price.
An extension branch of the Union Bank of India (UBI), Kailash Colony, New Delhi, is
situated within the college premises, providing easy banking facilities to students and
staff.
Photocopying service is available in the college premises on payment basis.
The college campus is surrounded by lush green lawns. In winter, it is a riot of colours
and a real treat for the eyes. An organic vegetable garden has been established in the
college. A green and clean environment is a major conscious endeavor at SBSC.
The college posses a Seminar Room with the state of the art facilities. The college
organizes seminars, workshops and paper presentations with active participation of
students and faculty. Eminent scholars and experts from academic and corporate bodies
are invited to interact with the students and deliver lectures.
The college has arrangements for various sports and games like Cricket, Hockey,
Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Badminton, Kho - Kho,
Athletics, Gymnastics, Carrom and Chess. The college can boast of the best Cricket
Ground in the whole of South Delhi. Basket Ball and Lawn Tennis Synthetic Courts
have been newly constructed.
Life in SBSC is awesome. One will never regret being part of it. None can get bore in
campus or out campus as it is located at the place connected the active world. On
Thursdays, can go for movie at PVR Saket. Area is surrounded with parks and gardens,
nearest large one is "Jahanpahan city forest". The "Qutub Minar" is the nearest
monument. Authority Market which is the place for Food Corners, Bakery, Photocopy
shop, Books Stores, ATMs just near to college. The students can be found hanging out
at the Select City Walk Mall, Saket which is Delhi's biggest mall and is a stone's throw
away from the college.
The crowd of SBSC or called SBSCians is a mixture of students belonging poor classes
and the high class students but although all are very friendly. While few are busy in
studying, few seems practicing dance and doing fun. And yes ofcourse crowd contains a
nice number of beautiful girls and plenty of handsome guys.
The college has its own placement cell. The students have been placed in companies like
Genpact, India Bulls, KPMG, Grant Thornton, Ernst & Young, global shared services
etc. Placement Cell organizes pre-placement presentations by recruiting organizations
which is followed by the actual recruitment process.
The college is proud of its well known alumni who have contributed meaningfully in
diverse fields of business, culture and society at large. The pass-outs are occupying
senior positions in Government, Judiciary, Business, Industry and Politics. Within whom
popularly known are Sidharth Malhotra and Gautam Rode.
